Australian and New Zealand SWTOR launch confirmed!

Yes, this is old relatively old news. 

We can confirm that Star Wars: The Old Republic will be launching in Australia and New Zealand in the spring of 2012.

Right now we are targeting March 1st, but that could change as our number one priority is making sure that customers have a great service to play on.

For those of you who may have already imported the game, we will be investigating solutions to allow you to continue to play on a local server once they come online in March.

You may be aware that Australia (among other places) were left out of SWTOR’s global launch. This wasn’t too much of a problem for those who were willing to order the game from overseas and have it shipped here (such as myself), but it was still a huge slap in the face (one that I still feel to this day) for Australian/NZ gamers. You see, the problem with being forced to play on American/European servers is that the regularly scheduled maintenance is smack bang in the middle of Australian prime time!

Take right now for example, the servers are down for approximately six hours. This isn’t too much of a problem for American users, but for Australians.. it’s just painful man! And yes, I know full well that this is the most appropriate time to have maintenance. Even though there are a lot of Australian/New Zealand players, we’re still a minority here. None of this would have been a problem if we got our own damn servers! 

But at any rate, we’ll have to wait until March 2012 to get our own server, which is a long frakking time, but it’s still better than nothing (especially if we are able to transfer our characters to the new servers).
